Task

Situation

The goal was to create a self-service digital menu and ordering platform, fully integrated with existing POS systems, that could also expand into loyalty, discounts, and marketing campaigns.
  • Researching restaurant workflows and customer expectations.
  • Designing an application that could integrate seamlessly with POS partners like Revel and Chowly.
  • Building a scalable design architecture that allowed restaurants and marketing teams to customize menus and campaigns for growth.

 As the Senior UX Designer, I was responsible for:

 QRDER began as a vision to leverage a proprietary payment gateway for the restaurant industry. At the time, most restaurants relied on clunky PDF menus that offered no interactivity or upsell opportunities.

Action

  • Built a fully functional staging app that demonstrated proof-of-concept for a scalable restaurant growth platform.
  • Solved the “PDF menu problem” with a dynamic, upsell-driven QR/NFC experience.
  • Enabled restaurants to create branded, revenue-focused digital menus that could increase order value and streamline operations.
  • Business model positioned QRDER to capture revenue via payment processing, similar to Apple Pay.
  • Theming & UI Exploration: Built ~30 test themes to test brand flexibility across different types of restaurants.
  • Theme Builder Vision: Designed a custom theme builder so restaurants could control brand identity (beyond the limits of typical QR apps).
  • Feature Expansion: Designed flows for ordering, loyalty, discounts, and SMS campaigns.
  • POS Integration: Architected user flows to ensure smooth syncing of menus/orders with Revel, Chowly, and other POS systems.
  • All-in-One Dashboard: Created a multi-section web app (10+ modules) including campaigns, marketing, menu management, and reporting.
